Back in the backwaters

I have returned recently to the land of apples and cider, combines and hop-sprayers, where people drive their tractors to the pub.. and back. I have taken up residence every Thursday in Ledbury Books and Maps, courtesy of my mother. I was in the bookshop this morning and browsing the stock; i've found about 4 books I really want to read - partly due to the covers! But of course they all involved small-town suburban and/or rural drama and interesting introspective characters. Anyway, two of the books had very David Lynch/Bret Easton Ellis-esque covers; a photographic one and painted one that depicted thoughtful people in sumptuous or vast surroundings. I got the idea to sketch some pictoral paintings depicting this; one central element that is a person, or something that serves a person. It's hard to describe without seeing the book covers, but i've done a painting this avo of Dom on the poolside in Italy reading; kind of an intro to the painting idea. It's at the bottom in the photo - you can't see it properly but i'll take a better photo soon.
Quite a loose idea, but i'd like to make a few paintings and design them afterwards into posters to advertise some imaginary film nights/gigs/exhbitions/events that I wish would happen!
And the rest of this post it old stuff - except for me and Clarrie hanging out today!

Nunhead greengrocers

a painting i made on top of some old wood i'd used as a paint palette.
and below. don't think i like these - they're somehow a bit sickly.
