this is my fave one a screenprinted which i think i forgot to put on before...
Had my exhibition.. here's some of what people wrote on the postcards. People liked it, i think.
I handed in ALL my Final Major work this morning. DONE.
I didn't know what to do while everyone else was at uni so i tidyed my room. It is so tidy.
Then i went to clean the kitchen and found this charming fellow in the corridor.
And this is the fnished full-size bedside table... the stamped postcards go in the drawer which people can write to strangers/self address them put them back so other strangers write one to them etc.
There's a slot behind the 'Sunshine' cutout for lights to go so it shines out through the letters.
21st century wordsmith Natasia Rubin's quote 'Through the grey gloop and smog there is always sunshine' is painted around the sides.
This is the finished bed and bedside table for maquette - red/gold cos it's warm and inviting. Plus it reminds me of a bed from an amazing pop-up book i had when i was a wee babbin called 'The Magic Dressing-Up Box'.
So i decided to make a bed... because this project is all about social interaction, and i was thinking...
where can you
1. relax
2. think
3. admire your environment
4. be comfortable
5. hug people
6. interact socially
in bed. yeah. yep.
Obviously i can't afford to make a full size bed... or know how to, so i'm making a maquette... there's be a bedside table too which i will make full size. my father is skilled with power tools and imparted some of his valuable knowledge to me when i was but a sperm, so that's useful.
this is the bed in progress....
It's a four-poster bed... cos you draw back curtains to reveal more behind it... which is what London is like if you take the time to appreciate it. Stories n stuff y'know.
Found this wee pic from when I was on Brick Lane last term, charmant.
I've been doing my FMP for about 7 weeks now and i've decided on doing an INSTALLATION.... I shall elaborate after breakfast...
Project proposal:
I have decided i will pursue a project in which I aim to manifest a vision, or a mindset within the audience, which will add value to and inspire their everyday life in London.
I aim to inspire the individual to be inspired themselves and to engage in their community more. I want to provoke thought and encourage people to explore their community and environment and enjoy their city more. I hope to revitalise their minds through this.
I'm trying to write my project proposal for my FMP Graphic Design foundation and i made a list of things i like/find interesting that i could maybe make into a proposal.
.....
also just thought of having a big screen projected somewhere where the public can upload their own pictures, photos, videos, music, marriage proposals! etc via the web and it can come up on the screen.
but i have NO idea how to do that
INSPIRATION:
1. The art of creating great spaces
Great public spaces are the living room of the city - the place where people come together to enjoy the city and each other. Public spaces make high quality life in the city possible - they form the stage and backdrop to the drama of life. Public spaces range from grand central plazas and squares, to small, local neighborhood parks.
The combination of beautiful architecture with great public space creates the most beautiful places to live - places that express a life of richness and tradition, and act as a setting for life to happen.

I love the idea that the public spaces of the city are the 'living rooms' for its inhabitants!
ReplyDeleteand the photo on your previous posting is similar to that...
It would be fun to position a sofa like this, somewhere urban, busy and a bit random and leave a camera secretly filming the people who interact with the sofa....
....
I know that's totally where i'm going with my outcome... great minds and all that!
ReplyDeleteExcept i'm gonna do a 4 poster bed where people can hang out.... with a bedside table and an mail service thing where there's a bedside table full of pre-stamped envelopes and people can write their address on and put them back, then other people can pick them up and post whatever they want to random strangers.
I'm making the table today :)
Also i need to learn how to book bind neatly cos i wanna make a bedside table book called 'Bedtime Stories' by Me, You & Us.... diary type style with illustrations and people can enter stuff.
I'm gonna put all my sketchbook pages for this up later... after i've eaten my porridge!
