Monday and Tuesday

Mastering inside pockets with french seams

I made a dress, that is apparently the same colour as Peckham in January. The blue light from the window in the studio today and all my grey and blue fabrics looked so great!

The blue at the back is cotton. The grey is crepe de chine (all second hand of course) and is pretty light - and whenever you're actually moving around and doing stuff and wearing light dresses it's nice to have reassurance that the back hasn't floated up in the wind or whatever - so this blue cotton weighs it down a bit, and is also just for a bit of extra resilience so it won't get caught so easily of you're sitting outside on the grass/climbing trees whatever. it also makes it sway a bit further away from your legs so it's a cooling system also, rad. Plus an all grey swag-dress would never do. It's basically for hot summers when you've been hard at work all day and now it's time to relax. highly suitable for this time of year.

Nice red legs from a too hot bath

the weather / terrain / scenery / wildlife / how it makes a place / how that decides your values and morals

Harry Callahan at the Tate Modern - photographs of Ireland and close ups of grass... made some notes that helped me solidify some details about the fabrics & colours I will make the Swagman clothes from. I imagine this is a world they could be worn in.

And so my ideas...

Scenery and weather incites the biggest impulses to be a certain way and live a certain life

some of the fabrics i will use - hessian, silks, cottons

(I also made a nice big quiche for Freya and Me to eat at work tomorrow :)

La Robe Blanche

Today I made a floor length white muslin dress (second hand of course), with green straps made from some old upholstery. I believe this to be the Swagman - Downtime dress! You can't try hard ALL the time, so this dress is for pure hedonistic abandon - maybe for dancing, being nakey, swimming, getting married in, or making preserves with?!

The back isn't finished here - it's more ruched in real life

Oh and I made a nightie for myself too, so i feel like a princess of the farmlands when I go to bed

Dyeing with onion skins

Dying with different mordants and different skins from various onions gets you different colours, but this is just a wee bit of vinegar as a mordant then just loads of normal white onion skins. Should try red onions, green onions and garlic skins.
