Each ecosystem is within a larger ecosystem susceptible to variable input and output: Instability: fluctuating tension

There can be a state of equilibrium (perfectly balanced tension) state but it won't be stable because the structure is not fixed.
- the input and output of influential forces is not permanent.

the continuation of a triangle (balanced natural process or ecosystem) beyond itself adds up to a circle: all open ecosystems are part of a larger closed cyclical ecosystem.

Tension

Sometimes the tension is essential or helpful for progress, sometimes it is detrimental. Sometimes it is between man and nature, sometimes it is between 2 or more elements of nature, and sometimes it is within one element. Sometimes it is perfectly balanced tension and progress is constant - but this doesn't mean the tension is natural (humans might be helping). Sometimes the tension is bursting at the seams and nature is reclaiming its former kingdom, or contrarily it is being quashed of it's power and irreversibly exiled from a place.
